Acer Revo One RL85, a very versatile little machine.
The one we’ve been testing has the Intel i3 dual core CPU with 4GB ram and 2TB HDD and is capable of a full 4K video output.
These tiny system, which are about the same size as 1lb a bag of sugar, are fantastically discreet but with its understated minimalists looks it will look good wherever you place it.
This type of attention to detail and aesthetics was usually left to Apple, who seemed to be the only company that could pull it off, but not any longer and at an affordable price. We carry refurbished stocked of this particular model and sell them for £295, this price includes an Acer wireless mouse and keyboard specifically designed for this great little system.
Along with the power of the Intel i3 processor and 4GB of ram you also get the option to easily upgrade the hard drives and storage. The Acer Revo One RL85 has 3, yes you’ve read that correctly, 3 drive bays, each capable of hold a 2.5” HDD of up to 2TB in size for a total of 6TB, and lets not forget the SD memory card slot which is discretely hidden away behind a little trap door at the top of the unit. This limit will probably be expanded in further with future firmware updates allowing for greater capacity. This makes this little system a fantastic little file and media server. You can set the drives to raid 0,1 and 5. You can also mix and match the hdd’s, for example you could have a 256gb SSD in one bay and 2 x 2tb HDD drives in the reaming two bays, set the 2 x 2tb drives to a raid 1 (mirror) array and you’ve got yourself a brilliant little business tool, one that can act has a data/file server that creates its own mirrored copy without the need for anything more complex than the little system, screen, keyboard and mouse.
Did we mention that this little wonder can be controlled with your smart phone. Download the Acer App from the App store or Google Play and away you go. There’s also a neat little combination keyboard and mouse remote control, brilliant for those who want to use the device as a media centre, this comes as standard with the Celeron, 60gb SSD model, which we also stock. (see pics).
Conclusion: Small, great looking, powerful and versatile. Use under or at the side of your TV has a media centre, on your desktop as a PC or in an office environment as a file server which can also be configured as your very own personal cloud storage that can be accessed from anywhere in the world…phew!!! now that’s what I cal versatile.
